Social Group Activities

Organised group social activities for older adults in Western Sydney, building connection, purpose and joy outside the home.

Social Connection Group Activity

Social group activities bring older adults together for shared experiences, an outing to a local café, a craft session, a gentle exercise class, a trivia afternoon. Group social participation is associated with improved mental health, reduced cognitive decline, lower rates of depression and better physical health outcomes.

What is Social Group Activities?

Social group activities are organised gatherings of a small number of clients who participate in a shared activity together, accompanied and facilitated by Wisteria carers. Groups are kept small to ensure genuine participation. Activities are designed around the interests and abilities of the group, responsive and person-centred, not generic programming.

What's included

Small group outings (cafés, gardens, galleries)
In-home group activities
Gentle group exercise and movement
Art, craft and creative activities
Music appreciation and sing-alongs
Cultural and community events
Trivia and cognitive games
Cooking and baking groups
Garden clubs and outdoor activities
Supported transport to and from activities

Who benefits from this service?

Group activities suit clients who enjoy social connection and benefit from peer interaction, particularly those who have lost social networks through retirement, bereavement or relocation, and those in early to moderate dementia who can engage meaningfully with the right support.

How it works

1

Interest and ability matching

We identify what kinds of group activities suit your loved one, their interests, mobility, cognitive level and social comfort.

2

Introduction to the group

First attendance is closely supported, the carer ensures the client is comfortable before stepping back.

3

Regular group schedule

Consistency builds connection. Regular attendance with familiar faces produces the best social outcomes.

4

Family updates

Families receive a brief note after each activity, what was done, how their loved one engaged, any notable moments.
