Support at Home, Plain English Guide
The Australian Government's Support at Home program funds aged care services in the home. Here's what it means, how to access it, and how Wisteria helps you make the most of it.
What is the Support at Home program?
The Support at Home program is the Australian Government's funding framework for home care services for older Australians. From 1 November 2025, it replaced the previous Home Care Packages and other programs into a single, simpler system. Eligible older Australians receive a quarterly budget, based on their assessed level of need, to purchase approved home care services from a registered provider.
How Wisteria works with Support at Home funding: Wisteria Home Care delivers care in partnership with Trilogy Care, a registered Support at Home provider. Care is delivered by Wisteria Home Care, while Trilogy Care manages your Support at Home funding, budget and finances on your behalf. This means you get the hands-on care expertise of Wisteria with the administrative support of an established funding manager.
Key change from 1 November 2025: The Support at Home program replaced Home Care Packages (HCP) Levels 1โ4 and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) for new entrants. If you were previously on a Home Care Package, you have been transitioned to the new program.
How much funding will I receive?
Your funding amount is determined by your Classification Level (1โ8), which is assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) based on your care needs. Higher levels correspond to higher care needs and greater funding. Your quarterly budget is allocated by the government directly and can be used to purchase approved home care services from a registered provider like Wisteria.
Because funding levels and amounts are set by the Australian Government and reviewed periodically, we recommend visiting myagedcare.gov.au or calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 for the most current and accurate figures for your level. They can also tell you exactly what you're currently approved for if you already have an assessment.
What your budget covers: Your quarterly budget can be used across any mix of approved services, personal care, nursing, allied health, domestic assistance, transport and more. The government also automatically reserves a portion for care management, which covers your care coordination and plan reviews. This is not an additional charge to you.
Do I need to pay anything out of pocket?
No co-contribution
Clinical nursing and allied health services: Registered Nurse visits, wound care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, podiatry and dietetics. The government funds these in full regardless of your income.
Co-contribution may apply
Everyday Living and Independence services, personal care, domestic assistance, meal preparation, transport, companionship and respite. The amount is determined by Services Australia based on your income and pension status.
